Have you ever wondered how healthcare providers always know what to do in an emergency? This session will introduce you to the facility and tools Sentara Healthcare uses for practicing responses to emergencies as well as routine patient care. Join us at the Sentara Simulation Center for an introduction to healthcare simulation, a tour of the facility, and demonstrations with high fidelity manikins and various task trainers.
Upon completion of this session you will be able to:
1) Describe the role of a simulation facilitator
2) Recognize how simulation is used in healthcare
3) Observe and participate in a simulation scenario

PRESENTERS:
Kathy Hochmiller, RN, BSN, MS, is a registered nurse with 36 years of nursing experience. She is the Manager of the Sentara Simulation Center and her nursing experience includes Medical-Surgical, Intensive Care, Flight Nursing, Information Technology and Management. Kathy is responsible for the smooth operation of the many programs run by and for healthcare professionals at the simulation center.
Liz Devenney, RN, BSN, is a registered nurse with 27 years of acute care nursing experience in Medical-Surgical, Intensive Care, Labor & Delivery, and Occupational Health. In her role as a Simulation Specialist Liz designs, develops, and implements simulation education programs for service lines within the Sentara Healthcare System. Liz is also a consultant to subject matter experts and assists them with building simulation scenarios for their own programs.
